What is a Stored Product Pest?
Stored product pests are a group of insects and other organisms that infest and damage various stored food products, including grains, cereals, dried fruits, spices, and other pantry staples. These pests are a common nuisance for homeowners, food processors, and businesses involved in agriculture, warehousing, and food distribution. They are also known as pantry pests or stored food pests.
Cigarette beetle
Cigarette beetle: About one-eighth of an inch and reddish yellow or reddish brown. They lay eggs inside processed foods and tobacco products and will feed on anything from flour and seeds to spices and raisins.

- Color: Light brown to reddish-brown, covered in fine scales
- Oval-shaped body with a mottled appearance

Larder beetles are small, oval insects, around 5 to 8 millimeters long. They have dark brown or black bodies with distinctive, light-colored wavy bands on their wing covers.

- Larva: Larvae, often called “bacon beetles,” are bristle-covered and voracious scavengers, feeding on dried meats, cheese, pet food, feathers, and more.

Red and Confused flour beetle

Sawtoothed & Merchant grain beetle
Sawtoothed & Merchant grain beetle: One-tenth of an inch and brown to dark brown. They are found in foods that are high in oils and fats such as peanuts or birdseed but can also attack rice, cereals, cake mixes, chocolate, and pastas. They are highly mobile and can easily spread to packages near the original infestation.
Small (2-3 mm), dark brown to black, with six saw-like teeth on the thorax.
Complete metamorphosis – egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Life cycle of 4-6 weeks.
Infests grains, cereals, and flour in homes and storage facilities. Adaptable to various environments, making them persistent pests.
Weevils
Weevils: Rice, maize and wheat weevils have slight differences but are usually one-eighth of an inch and black, brown, or reddish-brown with a long snout. They attack whole grains such as wheat, rice and pasta and corn, barley, oats, rye, and buckwheat.

- Typically, they have elbowed antennae and hard exoskeletons.
